Community Outreach, Charity & Sustainability Initiatives

At Norfolk Family Eye Care, we are passionate about giving back to our community and caring for the environment. Through a variety of initiatives, we support local events, global charities, and sustainable practices that help make a difference—one vision at a time.

Community two

Global Vision Initiatives

We proudly support Optometry Giving Sight, an organization dedicated to preventing avoidable blindness worldwide by training local eye care professionals and providing access to eye exams and glasses. Each October, we also participate in the World Sight Day Challenge, raising funds to support global vision care.

Local Community Support

We collect gently used glasses for the Lions Club Recycle for Sight program. Donated eyewear is cleaned, sorted, and distributed to people in need across developing countries. Drop off your old glasses at any of our locations.

We’re proud participants in the Eye See…Eye Learn! program, providing one free pair of glasses to children in junior or senior kindergarten born in 2018 or 2019, helping ensure they have clear vision for learning. Visit our Simcoe location to learn more.

We proudly support local events as Gold Sponsors of the Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show and Platinum Sponsors of Waterford Pumpkinfest.

Community three

Indigenous Community Support

Norfolk Family Eye Care is committed to improving eye care access for Indigenous children through the Indigenous Children Eye Examination (ICEE) Project. This program provides vision screenings and eye exams to over 6,000 children in remote Northern Ontario communities, including:

  • Weenusk First Nation
  • Fort Albany First Nation
  • Kashechewan First Nation
  • Attawapiskat First Nation
  • Moose Cree First Nation
  • Town of Moosonee

Dr. Katie Ryan and Dr. Janki Kapadia have proudly participated in these trips, ensuring children receive the care they need.

Environmental Commitment & Sustainability

We are dedicated to reducing our environmental impact through sustainable practices, including:

  • Electronic Medical Records: Our system has significantly reduced paper waste over the years.
  • Lions Club Glasses Recycling: We collect used glasses for reuse in developing countries.
  • Bausch + Lomb Every Contact Counts Program: Drop off used contact lenses, blister packs, and cases at any of our locations for recycling.
  • Lens Recycling: All demo lenses and old lenses are recycled.
  • Office & Cosmetic Recycling: We recycle used office supplies like pens, batteries, and cosmetic containers through specialized recycling programs.
